State Income Tax for Direct Mailers

July 17 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm EDT

If you thought income tax was just a numbers game, think again. States are getting creative (and assertive) with how they decide what slice of your income they get to tax, and the rules are changing fast. Martin Eisenstein and Jamie Szal, partners at our counsel, Brann & Isaacson, are back to shed light on the ins and outs of state income tax for direct mailers. They will discuss the issues and opportunities in this area, including nexus, separate vs. combined reporting, sourcing, and throwback/throwout rules. This webinar will also unpack the sneaky way some states are applying sales-tax-style logic to income tax, and how that could put long-standing federal protections (hello, P.L. 86-272) at risk. It’s tax talk, but for mailers—and yes, we’ll keep it lively.
